I saw Zakir Hussein in concert once, jamming under an oak tree with Future Man of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, the drummer for the New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars, and a bunch of Senegalese drummers playing talking drums. Unbelievable, he would play some Indian rhythms for a while, then someone else would join in, and he'd effortlessly follow their lead and jam on his tabla in whatever rhythmic style they played.
